Understanding the G2 Road Test

The G2 road test is administered at the local DriveTest Centre. It assesses your ability to safely navigate city streets, obey traffic signs and signals, and demonstrate confident, responsible driving.

You must have held your G1 license for the required period and practice extensively before taking the test. The exam typically lasts 20–30 minutes and includes maneuvering, lane changes, parallel parking, emergency stop,general road awareness and knowladge about right of ways

What’s on the G2 Road Test Checklist

Before taking the G2 road test, ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • Valid G1 license held for the required time
  • Completed driver education (if applicable)
  • A safe, roadworthy vehicle with working lights, horn, and mirrors
  • Proof of identity and payment

During the test, the examiner will assess:

  • Proper lane positioning and speed control
  • Mirror and blind-spot checks
  • Smooth braking and acceleration
  • Obedience to stop signs and traffic signals

Top Tips for Passing Your G2 Driving Test

  • Practice regularly in different traffic and weather conditions.

  • Take at least one lesson with a certified driving instructor to rectify mistakes.

  • Review the MTO Driver’s Handbook thoroughly.

  • Arrive early and ensure your vehicle is in excellent condition
  •  You are supposed to demonstrate skills such as parallel parking, three point turns, observations after every five to seven seconds and lane changes properly.

  • At the end front parking or reverse parking on both sides.
